OUR PAN TUNER - GERARD CLARKE
SYMPHONYX STEEL ORCHESTRA
    Gerard Clarke was born in September 1949 in Trinidad. He has been playing the
Steelpan for the last fifty (50) years. He served as the musical arranger for Woodbrook
Secondary School (Port of Spain T’Dad), from 1975-1977. While at Woodbrook
Secondary, the school placed 1st in 1976, and 3rd in 1977. Over a forty year period
(1964-2005), he performed with Starlift Steel Orchestra, at Concerts, Carnival Parades,
Panorama Competitions, and many World Steelband Music Festivals. He also travelled
overseas on ten tours with Starlift.
  Gerard began learning the art and skill of making and tuning pans in 1982. He was
taught by Herman Guppy and Bertram Kellman.  He began manufacturing and selling
steelpans to international customers, mainly North Americans and Europeans in 1987,
and continues to do so up until the present time. Some Trinidad bands he has done work
for include: Phase Two Pan Groove, Simple Sound, Tripolians, Scorpion Pan Reflections,
and Starlift. He also does work for groups, ensembles as well as soloists, and he
manufactures/tunes the full range of steelpan instruments.
